Mediation

CEDR Accredited Mediator

Viv Wild is a CEDR accredited mediator with a focus on mediating disputes concerning the administration of estates and trusts.

After a very successful career spanning more than 20 years as one of the region’s leading private wealth solicitors, structuring wills and trusts for high net worth families, Viv brings substantive subject matter knowledge to the mediation room, not just process expertise.

She has been ranked as a Legal 500 Leading Individual for Personal Tax, Trusts and Probate (Yorkshire) since 2020 and individually in Band 1 in the Chambers High Net Worth Guide (Leeds, Bradford and surrounds) since 2021.

"The Chambers High Net Worth Guide 2026 describes Viv as 'a brilliant lawyer' who 'understands [clients'] situations and desired outcomes.' The Legal 500 2025 notes her 'extensive knowledge of trusts' and her ability to 'explain complicated tax matters in plain and understandable terms.'"

Style

Mediation style

Viv brings a rare combination of legal depth, calmness, authority, and problem-solving skills that helps parties move forward. Active and attentive listening enables her to get to the bottom of what lies behind each party's position, whilst remaining neutral and unbiased at all times.

Viv can work out quickly what stance to take in the mediation process, adopting different approaches to the mediation depending on the needs of the parties, and how to help the parties and their advisers navigate a route to settlement.

Approach

How Viv approaches mediation

Comprehensive preparation is key

A few weeks before the mediation, Viv will encourage the lawyers to have a joint planning meeting with her to identify any potential blocking issues e.g. with the tax position, the Estate Accounts or asset valuations.

Prior to the mediation day, Viv will thoroughly review all papers with a keen eye for detail. She will also contact each party and their lawyers to spend time with them on a video or telephone call, lasting one to two hours per party, to understand the dispute and their respective positions and approach to settlement.

During the mediation, Viv will work with the parties and their advisers, challenging and reality testing when appropriate, enabling them to visualise the outcome within a protected environment and to identify what needs to be achieved to reach their settlement.

If a settlement is not reached on the mediation day, Viv will continue to work with the parties and their lawyers to try to reach a resolution.
